Montecantini Terme, a charming spa town 50km northwest of Florence, and one hour from Pisa won her heart.
Adrienne has written and illustrated many picture books for children over the past 20 years. Her love of painting and drawing started at an early age, and she has never looked back. Adrienne studied design and illustration in Kingston University in the UK, where she was awarded a first class BA (hons) degree. She continued her career for some years in London, illustrating for many prestigious publishers, newspapers and magazines in the UK including The Guardian and the Economist.In the nineties Adrienne returned to her native Dublin, and worked in a shared studio. She also lectured part time for seven years in DIT – Visual Communications Degree Course 1997 to 2003, and again from 2013 to 2016. Adrienne’s work has been translated into many languages and has worked for Macmillan Children’s Books, Oxford University Press, Hazar UK, Scholastic Children’s Books, Francis Lincoln Children’s Books UK, Ladybird, Readers Digest Children’s Books, and Bloomsbury Children’s Books amongst others. She has also worked for many years illustrating freelance for the Irish Times, Business and Finance, Sunday Business Post, Irish Independent amongst others. More recent work has been exhibited in the Science Museum in Dublin and The Copper House Gallery, Dublin, and Images Beyond Borders at the No Grants Gallery/The Culture Box, and Pictiúr a touring exhibition of 21 of Ireland’s leading children’s book illustrators. It was co-curated by IMMA’s Education and Community Department and Laureate na nÓg, Niamh Sharkey in 2014.
Adrienne has also lectured extensively on her subject in colleges and libraries around the country as well as DIT Visual Communication, NCAD Illustration Master Classes, Independent Colleges Evening Diploma – writing and illustration picture-book diploma, Ballyfermot College of Higher Education workshops and lectures, and the National Gallery of Ireland Summer Lecture series 2009.
Adrienne runs sell out courses at Visual Art Boot Camps in Dublin from Late September to late May each year. Adrienne is a member of the Illustrators Guild of Ireland, Children’s Books Ireland and a Golden Paints Artist Educator (GAEP)
